The work is international, some of the things you do contribute to international development, colleagues are bright and interesting people.

Cons

Non-flexible working environment, low prospects of progression, non-transparent internal procedures, the lack of efficient information sharing techniques, slow pace of work

--Benefits are very good. -- Vacations are generous -- Excellent mix of colleagues from around the world -- Good treatment of women -- Quality work/life balance -- A good cause, obviously

Cons

--You must be a master of working the beauracracy. --Salary is decent but you surely could use more disposable cash to live in Gotham.

A great job, if you can endure the bureaucracy and monotony

Pros

The UN is a prestigious name, and it offers a secure job with great benefits. Working with different people around the world and dealing with global issues in the job is a special experience.

Cons

I often felt frustrated because things and changes took forever to be done. Meetings really didn't expedite anything and many of the upper-level officials (UN or UN-related organizations) are quite apathetic and political, and that's just not right in a place like the UN.
