Pros

They allow you to learn new things and technologies for advancing your career. When you work within the company, you have many chances to move around and find something else in a different location or in the same location if you would like. Very diverse.

Cons

Upper level management really needs to pay more attention to what is going on with the employees and the problems encountered. Their valuable input is sometimes ignored because someone is worried about upper level management.

Balancing the standard work vs. innovation

Pros

UTC has established standard work and a strong infrastructure to ensure that the tribal knowledge is collected and maintained. There is extensive availability of training opportunities not only to support your current work efforts but you own personal growth. There is a extensive amount of effort in educating the workforce on business ethics and changing the employees view of supporting the customer so that they only want your product.

Cons

There is a tendency to focus on all the tools put in place on not on the objective of using the tools. The standard tools were intended to make us more efficient, give us a place to go to understand and simplify what needs to be done and make sure that from one business unit to another we are working in the same manner. Instead maintaining the tools and evaluating the tools have become more and more of the job. People worry more about the tool being used correctly then the output of the tool.

Pros

The Employee Scholar Program is very good. They will cover the expenses up front and will pay for one degree per level(1 Masters, 1 Bachelor, 1 Associates). They make sure you try to have a work-life balance; they are very flexible with the time you can come in the morning and leave as long as you do your minimum of 40 hrs per week for salary employees. There are many opportunities for career development in terms of employee network groups and networking events. Prepare yourself educationally and take advantage of the benefits that are available to you.

Cons

Due to the many benefits they provide, sometimes their pay may be less compared to other companies. Not all managers are used to recognize employees for a job well done even though they have recognition awards. You have to lookout for your own career development because otherwise you may stay in the same position for many years.
