Pros

- Flexible schedule - Independent work - A smaller nonprofit organization

Cons

- They laid off/eliminated 13 employees positions with one day's notice and then encouraged them to apply for their rental assistance program if needed - Confusing hierarchy of leadership - Bad management, bad money management, and lousy personnel - No communication, internally as well as externally - Overtly hostile and aloof CEO - No training, only legally required onboarding for temporary employees

Pros

I loved my community work. I loved the partners. I loved so many of my co-workers.

Cons

The culture. The toxicity. The abuse. The lack of awareness. The overall internalized dominant culture that touts itself as DEI work. The misogyny. Leadership, all of them.

Pros

Great colleagues, powerful mission, great opportunities to expand personal focus and goals.

Cons

Politics are always at play. It often felt like my time at United Way was a bad episode of Game of Thrones. Despite a real mission people seemed to be focused on moving themselves forward at the expense of all other. So often it felt like the mission suffered as leaders sabotaged their rivals.
