Pros

Great Sustainability Science mission. Small nice community, more responsibilities and opportunities beyond job description if ready and willing to take on.

Cons

Mediocre management /administration, provincial and petty institutional culture.

Review of Unity College as an employer

Pros

Unity College is a very small (600 student) college in a nice but very rural and poor part of central Maine. It is a good place for academics focusing on teaching and the environment. The faculty are mostly highly committed to their fields and their students. The school hires many adjuncts to provide an expanded experience for students.

Cons

The facilities are poor, the pay is below average, and the current administration is second rate and prone to snap judgments, public negativity, and even yelling. This is not surprising because with a third tier school, poor budget, and low salaries, administrators from Deans right up to the President are hired who don't have previous experience suited for their jobs. Campus dissatisfaction and grumbling is rampant with the faculty recently on the verge of a vote of no confidence in the President.

Pros

Unity is great because the students are really engaged and the teachers are super dedicated. The community is very close-knit; nobody is anonymous. People like to get outdoors and do hands-on learning. The environmental mission is really motivating.

Cons

Work can really consume you there if you are faculty especially. Because it is small new opportunities don't come up often enough to make a promotion easy for staff. There is a lot of competition for resources.
