Pros

Benefits package. Room for advancement.

Cons

I hate to be the bear of bad news, but if I can save someone from working this position then I will. To begin, don't take any job in a call center.. ever. To say the least, working here was a complete nightmare. Our training class started with 8 and after just 3 short months only one was left standing. The first person who quit said she quit because this job made her sick because of her anxiety. When I heard this, for the first time in my life, I actually understood exactly how she felt ( and I have never felt this way). Ironically, the job pertained to talking to customers who were on short and long term disability. Well, in doing this you must mentally prepare yourself to talk to people who are mentally ill. This job made my life so miserable that there is no amount of money that could ever motivate me to go back. You get no support from the management and you literally have to change your status to go use the restroom, and if you spend more than 30 minutes of your 8 hour day using the restroom or just simply taking a breather from constantly being on the phone, then don't you worry because they WILL bring this to your attention. A co-worker who I grew really close to also had to be put on a medication for how much anxiety this job brought her. I don't think I can count on my fingers and toes just how many break downs this job gave me. So yes, the benefits are the pros for this job but with this type of work you are going to need it for your medication. I can't even blame the management for this. My advice, there are so many other businesses that you will be happier at. If you have a positive, bubbly personality this is going to kill you. My mistake was not quitting this job, my mistake was ever accepting it.

Pros

Whenever I face either a challenge or a victory, however small or large, I feel as though I am part of something larger than myself. The support of peers, management and senior leadership is astounding, and I always feel safe, supported, and able to act. There is an understanding that our resources are imperfect and evolving, and every employee is encouraged to voice their perspective. I've only been here 2 years, and have witnessed so much innovation and change. The sense is strong that we are committed to constant improvement.

Cons

The work environment needs some updating. The space feels a bit stuck. I'm excited for the workspace overhaul that is underway, and hope it affects things like air circulation, non-environmentally friendly facilities, and drab optics.

Pros

Good company to work for overall. I would say it obviously varies depending on your position and direct manager but my experience is that Unum values work / life balance and treats employees fairly. Great benefit package and I would say a fair salary for most positions. Also, company is doing a better job of engaging in community activities.

Cons

Difficult environment to work in sometimes due to the conflicts between sales staff and support staff. The company has really tried to implement recognition programs to get employees more involved in the company and feel valued but they still have some work to do in this arena.
