Pros

Employee Benefits. Unum really takes care of their employees benefit wise.

Cons

Satellite offices cater to the sales reps and client managers only. If you do not hold either one of these positions do not expect any perks. Management really only cares about ancillary employees 4 times a year, which is at the end of each quarter when business is being submitted. Workloads can be extremely high, and management does little help to ease or delegate overflow. Hourly employees are expected to work long hours, and it is highly discourage by management to submit overtime. There is very limited opportunity for career growth at the satellite offices unless you want to move into sales. I have heard that employee satisfaction is much higher at the home office.

Pros

The people are friendly, hardworking, and helpful. There is plenty of opportunity to advance within the company- whether you want to stay in one position or department and excel, or if you want to move throughout the company. Wonderful benefits, and just extremely organized as a corporation.

Cons

There are some positions that work later shifts, however, these shifts end by 8:00 p.m. and once you gain seniority, you can work a shift that better suits your needs, if you choose.

Pros

Great PTO package, fair salary, great add'l benefit offerings (eg, long term care, life, ad&d, etc). Worth noting that for an insurance company, the work feels more noble than others - Unum's products are literally there to help when people are facing tough situations. It's helpful to be aligned with a worthy cause for those times when typical work challenges get you down.

Cons

Rampant ageism. It's increasingly clear that only executives get to retire on their own time - others are "job eliminated." Regular restructuring results in many position cuts, even top performers - no job is safe anymore.
