Pros

Call centers are a good way to get into a company. Opportunity to advance outside the call center. Good Benefits. Remote work.

Cons

Corporate culture. Call centers are tough. But since I’ve been there they stopped all raises. They started 9 hour mondays and avoided overtime by having 7.45 hrs the rest of the week. They stopped paying for remote employees internet, requiring they pay for it themselves. Essentially a pay cut. The stopped investing in employees and started using overseas “ business partners” and closing departments and offices. They are absorbing colonial ins co and integrating products and departments leaving unreasonable responsibilities on call center agents. Your a jack of all trades but expert on none. Hundreds of poor workflows and systems that clock, time out and crash. It’s hard to help someone when your fighting your 50 GUI apps based on 80s tech. But if you can put up with all that it’s not bad.

Pros

Unum has great benefit, and a great location in Chattanooga. Also great people.

Cons

Depending on your department and level, the work can be exhausting and never ending. For hourly employees, you are worked to the bone and performing well is never enough. It is hard to figure out how to advance and many managers do not begin these conversations.

Great benefits and people for the most part

Cons

Once you hit salaried status they work you 24/7 and there is a strong high school popularity contest
