Marking time at a dying company.

Pros

The campus is nice. Good walking trails by the bay.

Cons

Product and senior management seems to have no idea how to move forward on some of their flagship products. I saw much wasted time, money, and opportunity go down the drain on projects that went absolutely nowhere.

Had Potential, But Ruined by Management

Pros

In very early days (1999-2001) a good to very good place to work. Once merger of Phone.com and Software.com was completed, went straight downhill. Every CEO since has been only marginally competent.

Cons

Absolutely no respect for contributions from the mid-level managers who built company. Newer management does not care if institutional knowledge and skills are lost through attrition, lack of motivation, poor management. Each new senior level person throws out the previous contributors (or makes them want to leave) and brings in marginally competent people with no respect for those who built the company. Their most recent CFO and interim GC were (imho) not qualified but ran others out due to their egos and inflated sense of importance.

Openwave was indeed very good in the early years but the promise is unfulfilled.

Pros

It had an excellent team in the early years. There were a lot of very talented engineers and we all worked very hard to get things done.

Cons

Very poor senior management in 2005. It was hit hard by the dot com bust early in the decade and the drastic changes senior management made in the middle of the decade failed drasticslly.
