Pros

The culture and environment is one of the best I've ever worked with and it starts with the people. The people who work at Upstart are loose, friendly, and makes coming to work something to look forward to. Like any startup, Upstart has opportunities for professional growth, but those opportunities have to be earned through initiative and hard work. Employees are encouraged to seek out extra roles and responsibilities, which lead to further areas of growth once they demonstrate their capabilities and strengths

Cons

In operations and customer service, there is a repetitiveness to the job, which can be a grind. Like any customer service position, there will be difficulties in maintaining composure when dealing with frustrated and/or angry customers

Pros

- A good place to get RoR experience - Remote friendly - Some smart folks, though that's changing

Cons

- Business has suffered greatly with high interest rates and lack of adaptation - equity compensation very poor for most who joined after IPO - Becoming very ex-Amazon heavy - Amazon on the resume is nearly a requirement now - Lots of projects that lack value - building things fast to keep everyone busy and feed the "speed habit" - Financial rewards are very top-heavy - too much for the leadership, too little for the folks who build the product

Pros

Good pay, good projects and smart engineers

Cons

Company does not value loyalty, they laid off the best and the brightest who have given years of their loyalty to the company. Instead they kept people who can show off the fact they have done lots of work to higher ups. Dirty politics, and lots of blame game recently, unlike before when it would be more transparent and more collaborative. That is what happens when you grow this fast this quick, the culture nosedives. Quality has deteriorated, and morale is low which was not the case before. Pay inequality based on gender still exists and is really a problem.
