Great place for career development while making a social impact

Pros

While working at Upswing, I've had the chance to work with a multitude of different people at varying levels of experience, job functions, and backgrounds. The company is a tech company with a social mission, which means that I've been able to learn a lot about product development and engineering while also gaining empathy for underrepresented student populations.

Cons

The business model can be very challenging. Partnering with colleges and universities is often a very long sales-cycle, so a lot of the wins can take several months to a year to materialize. On the flip side, this means that we are able to develop strong, lasting relationships with colleges, but it can be tough to get things started.

Collaboration, great for fresh out of college students, and

Moral is down and company is out of money. Did layoffs after saying that was no something they were going to do. They say they are transparent and listen but do the complete opposite. Upper leadership is never in office and do not make any changes once people leave. Turn over rate has been high in the past year.

Pros

Upswing is the first online tutoring platform I've tutored on that seems to have it right. The coaches are treated very well. You get to choose your own rate, and students get to choose you over and over again. I think the best part is that you can talk to students over videochat, which helps when I'm teaching Spanish.

Cons

It would be great if we could see the student ratings that are submitted.
