Pros

*I came in at a very early stage in both the company and my career, and growing alongside it was very cool. *People in technical lead positions are great at building employees and helping you grow your career. *The people are some of the friendliest people around and very welcoming. *You get to play with a lot of cool technologies. *Work life balance is great on my team, but I will admit i see it differ from team to team. *The office is nice *You get a lot of ownership in the applications you write *Horizontal role changes are common *I really gotta reiterate that the people here are talented and nice, its really what made leaving difficult

Cons

*The level of team to team communication is low, and people only seem to care about their own domain *Technical leadership needs more of control over product direction. *Compensation for entry level does not grow with experience or responsibility at a even rate *Product direction is sorta odd, theres sort of two internal companies with two products that operate independently of each other and it causes some real pain *CEO really went on a unprofessional rant about his vision that isnt reflected in the product process *Vertical movement internally happens less than it should.

Pros

* Electronic adjustable standing desks for nearly every employee * Free snacks * Drink machines with lots of choices * meeting room scheduling and AV equipment is easy to use * Unlimited Vacation (at least there used to be)

Cons

* unlimited Vacation - it is nice to have when you work there, but doesn't help you if the company decides to lay you off (like they recently laid off 51 people) or fire you with little to no cause. It doesn't accrue or payout so when you exit (by your own will or their's) you will realize it was set up that way to begin with. * Open office plan * Awful progress program - The performance review and progress program changed 4 times when I was there, and none of them were effective. * Pay will not increase, and you will almost certainly not be recognized for your contributions. You will hear during your performance review that "HR screwed up" or other excuses to not reward you even though you are an "A player", and exceeded all of your goals. You will not be promoted. * One of my managers who was there for almost a year and a half was fired at the end of the day by his boss, who called in remotely to do it. That is the kind of culture you get here. * Decisions are political instead of being data driven. You may find this surprising because this is supposed to be a data company with an "answers platform", but you at no point will you see any justification or data behind any decision. You will often have to do whatever the HiPPO (highest paid person's opinion) decides. * Lots of great people quitting or have quit * Weekly CEO emails are nonsensical. The CEO is detached from the day to day experience of employees. They attempt to inspire and motivate, but they come off as egotistical and cliché. The CEO has had a year of them put into a hardcover book titled "Sunday Thoughts" and littered them throughout the office. * The bureaucracy around acquiring anything is hair-pulling-out frustrating. You want to try a new piece of software for your team because the other internal version of software is either slow or always down? You have to spend 6 months going through acquisitions, security, engineering, to finally see it denied by a director in favor of "let's make the other one stable". You are better off just using it and not trying to follow the process. * Bad people are let go or reorganized into better positions - there have been multiple times when projects have been complete and utter failures by the same person, yet they are either promoted. * Dumb spending policies - ask for another laptop charger so you can work more at home after hours? Denied! According to the rules, it would cost too much money. At the same time, 16 60" HDTVs are bring installed into a wall down the hall, a podcast studio is being constructed, and a million dollar donation is being made to a prestigious University.

Thank you for expressing your frustrations during your time here. We continually assess how we can make it easier for people to operate at their own personal best. Our hope is that employees and managers are frequently sharing feedback with one another about performance and career interests and if an employee isn’t getting the feedback they see, we encourage them to ask directly for it. We are sad that you don’t think more positively of your time at Uptake and we certainly wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Pros

Great Perks: food coupons daily, beer on tap, frequent free lunch, free goodies and lot of parties and get together. Unlimited Leaves. Good People: People are very friendly and helpful. But a lot of smart people have already left the company. Good Learning Opportunity: The technology stack that we work on is awesome. Our resume looks awesome with just 1-2 years of experience at Uptake.

Cons

Where shall I start? No Core Working Product: Uptake is almost 3 years old but still has no stable, working product. We advertise ourselves as a SAAS company which provides a platform for predictive analysis but all we have is a web app which does not predict much. Hopefully, it will get better over time. No People With Experience: Uptake is a company with a lot of young people. They are all smart but lack experience. Software Engineers become managers in a span of 1 year. There is no proper Architect who oversees things in a project. There are a lot of smart people but not wise people. This led us to fail fast but the problem is we have failed at things so many times that we still do not have a stable product. This too will hopefully get better over time. Not able to hold on to Clients/ customers: Because of the sub-par product the customers are unhappy and eventually stop using Uptakes product. In this three years, many customers left and there is still no returning customers. A lot of bad Contractors: Uptake has hired a lot of incompetent Contractors who do not care about the product. They write bad code which leads to a lot of bugs. All they care about is showing how many stories they have finished so that they get a chance to convert to full time.

Thanks for your feedback on both the pros and cons of working at Uptake. We take this input seriously. There are a few things in your cons that we'd like to add clarity around: - At nearly 3.5 years old, we have not one - but several - working products that our customers, which number in the dozens, are using to increase their productivity and reduce asset downtime. - Our very first customer remains a customer of ours, a point of pride we hold dearly. And in the last year alone, we've signed a number of new deals, including those with Berkshire Hathaway Energy and Panduit, two that are well-documented, among others. - While we do employ many very talented young people, we also have some deeply experienced members of our team from an impressive list of companies both large and small. We take great pride in the diversity of experiences our employees bring to our team. It's with seasoned experience and curious minds we create products that serve our industries well. - We strategically bring on highly skilled and qualified contractors as needed who are held to the same standards our full time employees are. Regardless of position, we do expect everyone to operate with excellence. Anything less is addressed. We hope if ever there are questions or you feel there's lack of clarity around our products, customer base, or staff, you will raise those as appropriate with your manager or with our leadership team. We are always happy to talk through where we've been, where we're headed and what we've accomplished, all of which we work hard to make known across our business. Hopefully you take advantage of the resources we offer - like In the Know, All Hands meetings, leadership office hours and more - to stay informed on progress, goals and so forth. For product specifically, we now do product demos at every All Hands and have dedicated product/tech All Hands meetings to encourage people to learn about what’s happening outside their teams and across the company. We always welcome questions and dialogue.
