Pros

The University has a good health insurance plan. (I was employed earlier than 2011, but there was no option for that here.)

Cons

Coming from private enterprise, I was completely unprepared for the emphasis on degrees and tenure, rather than initiative and innovation. No way to advance except by gaining more initials and length of "incarceration". I left to pursue the greater opportunities in the private sector, and it worked out much better. Parking is frustratingly inadequate.

Pros

14% contribution toward retirement funds. Lots of vacation days you will never use.

Cons

Benefits are adequate for academia but sub-par for industry. Salaries are comparable to other universities in cities with lower cost of living, but much lower than industry averages. The number of processes managed through paperwork and the complications of the financial systems are embarrassingly antiquated.

Pros

I worked for the Academic Resource Center for 5 semesters. The faculty always made me feel like an important member of the Supplemental Instruction Program. Dennis Kohler and Debi Jensen both clearly care about the students they employ, which is demonstrated in their one-on-one support of and interaction with the staff.

Cons

I suppose the major con would be that I had to leave after graduation. Aside from that, I understand program funding and University policy only generally allow for part-time employment in the Supplemental Instruction program.
