Pros

You get to see cute pets all day

Cons

My location was mis-managed by someone far more interested in participating in high school level tactics than grown up leadership; it was sad, actually.

Pros

-Managers were very relaxed with remote work; no "helicoptering" or prying, healthy level of trust. -People who passionate about animals would probably enjoy being around other pet lovers. -You get reasonable benefits, typical for firms of this size.

Cons

-Substantial tech, math & analysis illiteracy in at the manager/director/VP levels, and overt disinterest in learning the necessary skills, means the efforts of business intelligence/data science's effort are largely wasted. -Complete lack of concern about making BI/data professionals feel valued. -My professional recommendations and report presentations were typically rejected or overridden by the managerial class in favor of extremely antiquated approaches one would only expect from the pre-computer graphics era, pre 1980s. The reasons for these denials were never substantive - they were only ever appeal to tradition/authority fallacies. I.e. "that's just the way the managers/directors want to see it", "that's how they're used to seeing it", or "they want a flat table of text, because they don't believe line, bar, scatter charts". -Refused pay increases beyond 3-4% even in light of inflation. -My lead (a director) does not advocate for me in any serious fashion. At least in my department, there is no sense of "wanting to elevate the younger colleagues". -401k match is minimal, significantly less generous than what I got at a legacy aerospace firm.

VCA has the largest education program across the industry, and we are working hard to ensure our Associates are fully empowered to take advantage of these opportunities and benefits. This includes training for leaders to ensure they are doing their part, and this work will continue. We appreciate this feedback, and encourage you to reach out to your Associate Relations Team with any further input.
