Pros

Working on a specialty hospital is good. The medicine that is practices very high-quality. And we have great toys to play with.

Cons

We’re just a tiny cog and a giant machine. We don’t get annual raises. Our prices go up tremendously every 3 to 6 months. We euthanize a lot of patients because of financial reasons.

Pros

I have worked in 2 different departments and I can say that if you push/ask for more opportunities to learn technical skills then generally you will have opportunities to learn them. Working at a specialty/referral hospital means that we get to see and manage more intricate cases than smaller hospitals do, which is great for learning.

Cons

Relatively low wages compared to other hospitals in the area and based on cost of living. Upper hospital management does not prioritize support staff.
