Pros

Interested in keeping employees up-to-date on training and facility requirements by providing online programs, extracurricular training, and on-site meetings.

Cons

Inundated with so many emails and requirements that it isn't possible to take advantage of their system without it leaking into personal time. Rules and regs are more important than individuals.

Pros

I liked the fact that they were a reasonable commute for college students in the area (This VCA was in Newton, MA).

Cons

Depending on the hours, I would feel uncomfortable coming and going to work. I worked the night shift when the hospital closed, and the door wouldn't always lock. The neighborhood isn't the worst, but it's not the safest either. Sometimes I would go upstairs and not hear a customer come in.

Pros

There are some very nice people who work at VCA, and that is what makes it worth it. Additionally, the Specialty division I worked at practiced a high quality of medicine, which I appreciated as well. This particular hospital also was very good with client service.

Cons

It was a large hospital, so that could have been part of it, but overall management was not good. There was not much contact with management unless you requested it; there were maybe quarterly meetings of the whole hospital. There were no department meetings ever. In general, employees were very unsatisfied with the basically "hands-off" managing done by VCA. In addition, while the prices charged to the client were extremely high, the salaries of both the DVMs and CVTs were pretty low and people were often leaving the practice. Healthcare benefits and animal care benefits were also not good, unfortunately.
