Pros

VCA is located all over the country so it is easy to transfer if needed. Also, you are able to help out sister hospitals if they are short on staff to get in extra hours. Good entry level position to gain exeperience in the veterinary field since ost places will not give you the time of day if you have not worked in an animal hospital before.

Cons

Staff turn around! Non-Exisitent management, usually someone that has no experience or an employee that has been given a promotion. The throw you out there with absolutely NO training ( unless you consider sitting on the computer for a week training when you have never been in the veterinary field before). They will not pay a decent wage and have HUGE staff turn around. I have helped out at multiple locations and have experienced the same problems. EXPENSIVE!! Most of the time I feel the companies priorities are for the profit before the pets.

Pros

It really depends on which hospital you work at. The hospitals in the VCA family differ so greatly from hospital to hospital. That can be a pro or a con because it means that there is no cookie cutter VCA Hospital. Make sure you ask for a working interview or to shadow. I have had some great managers and co-workers at VCA Hospitals.

Cons

It is hard to say any cons that are for VCA Hospitals in general and not get into specific hospitals. I guess I would say that it is easy for the upper management to focus on money, it doesn't make it a given, but it is an easy thing to fall into. Over all it really depends on the management at the hospital.
