Pros

Neverending education in animal health, decent hours, seeing dogs and cats leave happy and healthy for the most part, working with great doctors and a good team of people that all just want to help, employee discount

Cons

No time for training because management makes you overbook appointments so there is no time to do anything, doctors and technicians are exhausted when it's overbooked. Prices are outrageous and makes you feel guilty. Corporate doesn't actually care about the safety of employees. Current hospital manager has no experience in management, communication skills, or skills or knowledge animal health. She will never tell you good things, only your flaws, and cares way more about corporate than to ever see you succeed. Even if you bend over backwards for the hospital, she will just tell you what you've done wrong. They also give the title "customer service supervisor" to someone who doesn't even know how to work half of the programs up front at reception, and she is constantly complaining about her home life and taking personal calls. The manager and supervisor will also have no problem reprimanding someone together, in front of clients and other employees. They will mess with your schedule without notice.

Pros

Hospital and shift dependent but the people you work with become your allies in the trenches and the ones you rely on most and they are usually pretty awesome. Lots of learning opportunities

Cons

VCA has a no fire policy so you often end up working with incompetent or toxic people for extended periods of time despite expression of complaints to management. Regularly short staffed especially in the LVT department so as an LVT, you get severely overworked. Getting increased/deserved compensation for additional tasks and responsibilities is nearly impossible short of more schooling/degrees. Even then, it's poor.
