Not bad but not great

Pros

Coworkers are generally awesome. Great work culture. Open round the clock to service clients. No inter-personnel issues between employees.

Cons

Management is sub-par and rude. Manages from an "up above" attitude. Out of touch with staff. Workplace can be very stressful but doesn't really become an issue because of the great staff.

Pros

Fair employee discount. Good training. Ability to advance.

Cons

The veterinary departments rely on the not certified vet assistants to do a lot of grunt work, but they are also expected to do many tasks that only certified techs should be doing. That's a lot of free/ discounted labor for VCA .

Great if you don't need money

Pros

Pet discounts, surrounded by people who love animals all day at the hospital level, so most are dedicated and really care.

Cons

Upper management doesn't seem to care about the employees in the hospitals doing all the heavy lifting (literally sometimes). Pay is very low and we receive no bonuses or incentives. Yes we get health benefits, but vacation is almost non-existent and sick days are a joke - seriously, 1 day every 4 months and you're not allowed to carry over year to year! If you want to work here, you can never get sick. They also have decided not to recognize national and federal holidays (like the 4th of July) unless you work in the corporate office. Upper management has no animal or hospital experience, so all they care about is making money.
