Pros

Some fellow engineers were good to work with. Benefits were decent.

Cons

There’s no strategic vision which killed the NSE development portfolio and thus ended up causing over 100 layoffs. Don’t expect much here as far as genuine development. Engineers are expected to provide simple bandaids, cowboy code at best, to a large antiquated code base riddled with issues. It was amazing the code ran for any sustained period without a huge memory leak or segfault. Also, don’t count on the leadership to know what was going on, all the way to the CEO. They only seemed to know how to shovel the “story” so long as they were making perceived profits. The turnover rate of executive staff was nearly constant and several CEO’s later, they still can’t get their act together. It’s no wonder NetScout and other competitors were steamrolling them in the Networking/Cellular markets. It’s too bad too, as I truly thought there was potential in the concepts, but they could never get their act together.

Pros

Work from home, unlimited time off, some 401K matching.

Cons

All of management came from Fluke Networks so there was an old boys networks. If you were from Fluke you were always protected from any layoffs. Product management tried to copy exactly what was done at Fluke including the technology, micromanaging your sales cycle, publicly shame you for not hitting quota. They were tracking our calls and emails and had quarterly layoffs. This place is dying a slow miserable death.

Pros

Friendly coworkers; lower level managers are people focused though their ability to support their teams is significantly limited by the directions set by upper management

Cons

Senior management focuses nothing but the stock price, which has been stagnant for years due to poor business decisions constantly being made: going for business segments that are not growing; taking large deals that looks good for revenue but actually has negative margin with the intent to take market shares through a strong roadmap and then later realize the business cannot continue to invest to actually support follow on sales, etc. Past executives walked away with large compensation while employees are disposed in the name of keeping the profitability of the company looks decent on the books. Little to no effort made to motivate or retain top talents. Zero empowerment to lower level managers. People who are spared from the layoffs are overworked. The quote from the current CEO at an all hands meeting (when asked CEO in a recent All Hands Meeting re: layoffs, he said, "Sorry folks, this is Capitalism") is sadly true and really shows where this company is going.
