      Pros

      Management is supportive, pay is fair, almost everyone on the team--including physicians-- is approachable, available, pleasant to work with, and genuinely cares about the patients. Work-life balance is respected. They will probably ask if you can pick up extra shifts, but no one pushes if you give "no" for an answer.

      Cons

      Cons mostly have to do with the nature of the role itself, and what you expect from the job. Hospice is emotionally intense, there is a lot of driving, and admissions requires a high degree of attention to detail. If any of these things are overwhelming for you, then you might not be happy with this role. Corporate culture is about what you would expect from a large for-profit organization. And it can feel like Medicare is "Big Brother." However, on the local team level, management really tries to take the corporate buzzwords and turn them into a meaningful office culture. This positive review only applies to the "Chicagoland Northwest" region. Different regions may have a VERY different experience. But for me personally, VITAS does a good job at the things that I value the most, and the drawbacks are not deal-breakers.

      Good opportunities for growth. Rewarding to work with patients at end of life.

      Cons

      Very coorporate like mentality, focused on profits above patient care.

      Pros

      I appreciated the management. They made the training easy to follow and they were willing to take time out of their day to ensure your success.

      Cons

      The only con I have was that when COVID happened and companies were shutting down they shut down our dept briefly and did not really notify the employees when we were able to come back to work. They called us and gave us a 1 day notice to come back into the office, instead of giving us time to find childcare for our children since schools were closed.
