      Think hard before accepting employment

      Pros

      Interaction with my coworkers - helping each other out for the benefit of the patient, in the shadow of what we endured with this employer. Our enthusiasm reflected in the satisfaction of our patient's families.

      Cons

      Poor benefit package, and no available help in this local office. Management operates like a dictatorship without regard to the employee's professional success and morale. Other Vitas locations reviews run the gamut, from excellent to dismal; I suspect management is to blame. Wages don't adjust to the financial situation in the area; shift differential, on call reimbursement were not used in our office.

      Pros

      The patients and a couple of the staff. Taking care of the dying patient and their family is an honor. Vitas made it feel like you were working for the devil. It is a sacred journey caring for the dying.

      Cons

      The Vitas values are completely untrue. Patients are numbers and are brought onto the program whether they are eligible for care or not. "The doctor referred them so they must be appropriate". Cannot get what is needed for patients if it does not fit with the budget. Back stabbing, manipulative management. If the manager plays golf with the CEO you are totally screwed because he can be totally abusive to staff and it's not only tolerated it's encouraged. Management has all drank the Kool Aid. They fire or push out the staff with any knowledge of the industry so they can have staff that does not realize what they are doing violates the industry guidelines. They are disgusting human beings. Would not use their care if they were the only hospice. The staff they have does not have a clue because if they did they would be pushed out or quit due to all of the unethical practice.

      Pros

      Great co-workers, work is rewarding, great pay and benefits, excellent pto, free ceu's via inservices.

      Cons

      Large Case-loads along with On-call hours have high potential to cause burn-out and increased safety risks due to sleep depravation, high stress levels etc. Raises have been frozen for years at a time. Documentation still completed on paper-forms.
