      Pros

      As a Medical Director for VITAS, I have felt continually supported from senior leadership and regional leadership in prioritizing patient care, even if costly. Though hospice does not get paid more for the care of complex home patients, many of these patients are otherwise trapped in the hospital or an LTACH until VITAS accommodates their needs. Feel very proud of our endeavors in the Inland Empire. VITAS also supports a full time medical director salary, which is a rarity among hospice companies. VITAS has a system of good data tracking, which allows for continuous feedback and improvement.

      Cons

      Likely will do more paperwork, modules, and have more policy restrictions than if working for another hospice companies. Will have to submit your hours worked, even if salaried, which can be clunky, but not difficult. This just comes with the territory of working for a larger hospice company and as long as it does not interfere with patient care, is tolerable busy work.

      Pros

      Flexible schedules, the work I do on a daily basis is very gratifying and rewarding. I truly enjoy adding quality and value to a persons life at the end of there journey here on Earth.

      Cons

      Lots of changes, defensive would have like more advanced training in a classroom setting on the new EMR, but we will figure it out!
