      Might want to reconsider working for VITAS Jacksonville

      Good salary, positive work helping with patients and families

      VITAS Jacksonville is going to force employees to carry VITAS cell-phones, so VITAS could track employees' every move and location. Assigned on-call and forced to work over-time while not given comp time for the work, pays docked for staying home the next day after staff out all night on-call. VITAS docked thousands and thousands of dollars by government when VITAS hires people they like, rather than those competent and experienced for the jobs. Field workers (RNs, social workers, chaplains, etc.) can expect to work and travel many hours sun-up to sun-down, with no corresponding pay. Management not hired for their proficiency with hospice or as managers, but for numbers..

      Gosh----can't think of a one!

      Cons

      There are so many---micromanaging non-clinical senior management who care more about the bottom line than the patients. The Vitas Values are not there anymore. Patients and families don't come first. No one takes care of employees but themselves. No encouragement to do your best and to do better tomorrow. It's difficult to be proud to make a difference when senior management doesn't care unless that difference is to increase the bottom line. Salary freeze for the last 2 years. Downgrade in health care benefits that don't even cover a decent hospice benefit!

      Pros

      Helping people, team work, and meeting some really great people. Hospice care is rewarding if you are able to do it the right way. I love what I do just not where I work.

      Cons

      These people are criminals. They make it clear - admit anyone who breaths regardless of the laws, lie if you have to, document fraudulently, and do not discharge anyone unless you want to get fired. Employees are managed through fear tactics, and threatened daily. The Brevard Program in Melbourne Florida is a cruel joke. Eventually the law is going to catch these people and hopefully someone will go to jail. Do not look for employment here if you want to keep your nursing license - They are crooks!
