Pros

They provided a severance package after the layoffs, but it was nearly identical to what was offered to new hires, with the payout for additional years of service being insufficient relative to the time worked.

Cons

The company presents a facade of professionalism, but beneath the surface lies a toxic culture that rewards mediocrity and fosters favoritism. Promotions are often given to those who ingratiate themselves with management, leaving qualified individuals overlooked in favor of those who ignore significant issues. It's clear that management prioritizes cost-cutting over nurturing talent. Supervisors promoted to leadership roles frequently lack the necessary qualifications and regularly violated employee rights by sharing private information. Blatant disregard for confidentiality created a toxic and potentially unlawful workplace. Additionally, the company knowingly kept staff inadequately trained to avoid liability for billing errors, raising serious ethical concerns regarding their questionable practices, including upcoding, overutilization, unbundling, and waiving co-pays or deductibles to inflate profits. Despite our team proving its ability to work effectively from home for over a year, management refused to continue this flexibility, even after a serious safety threat involving a firearm was reported. Instead of allowing remote work for safety, they hired an unarmed security guard who provided no real protection. Additionally, one employee frequently displayed unprofessional behavior, such as sleeping at their desk, applying for jobs during work hours, and chronic attendance issues. Their workload was pushed onto the rest of the team without acknowledgment or compensation, and despite our concerns, no action was taken. We were consistently assured that layoffs would not occur, even as entire departments were systematically reduced. After slashing our team to a fraction of its original size, they proceeded with layoffs anyway, demonstrating that their promises are meaningless and that employee wellbeing is clearly an afterthought.

Pros

VSP Global is one of the better companies to work for in the Sacramento area. Pay is fairly in-line with industry standards assuming you aren't comparing to Bay Area. Stable company with low chance of mass layoffs.

Cons

Typical corporate politics. Tech portfolio is unfortunate mix of very old applications on life support and somewhat newer architecture. Getting stuck on legacy system is a career death sentence. Some of the newer tech is abandoned by architecture after releasing to enterprise.

Pros

-Large company with benefits. -Some commitment to the local community. -Quality Manufacturing.

Cons

VSP has a solid reputation among the Physician community, but the organization uses antiquated, manual process to solve many complex problems in its finance department. -The PAT (profitability analytics) Costing Group is highly dysfunctional and poorly managed. Very Toxic group within a disorganized, poorly led finance org. -Silo Workplace Mentality is rampant throughout finance, esp in PAT. -Very little Collaboration, in fact, it is discouraged in PAT. -Bullying Behaviors and Tyrannical Managers allowed. -Poor Communication. -Bad Attitudes throughout. -Ineffective Leadership. -Company Benefits are dwindling. -C-Suite fails to communicate with truthfulness re recent/current layoffs and benefit reductions.

Pros

Employee benefits, job security if you are corporate (last layoff was feb-march 2020) . good wlb, managers friendly, corporate and ceo executives are good with annual bonus incentives.

Cons

Seems that moving up in this company involves a little favoritism, or just depends what team you are in.
