• Projects are a lottery - you could go years without working on something you're interested in. It's all luck of the draw and your manager's ability to advocate for you and your growth • Redundancies are becoming a regular occurrence in the UK. I've lost count but it's in the region of 3 or 4 round within 2-3 years in the UK. I gather this is happening across the US and Europe too but in the UK management don't give any insight into what's happening elsewhere. Engineering is constantly hit if projects get cancelled, there's no desire to retain people and upskill them into growth areas like Data & AI. • Company strategy is incoherent. Like many companies, Valtech is pinning its hopes on AI work being a golden goose to save everything. But the company lacks the internal capability to deliver this kind of work, having never invested in it, and (as above) there's precious little effort to upskill Engineers in this area. The Legal department forbid Engineering from using AI tooling like Cursor and Copilot so internally there's a disconnect between different parts of the business on how to use AI.
