Dear Varjo team member, thanks for sharing your feedback. Great to hear that you consider Varjo a good place to work. We are equally proud of our multinational and -cultural working environment, with 30 different nationalities in our core team and a versatile group of leading Nordic, European, and Asian investors supporting our growth journey. Also, thank you for addressing the tension brought on by approaching release dates. While new releases tend to always require a push, for a growth company like Varjo with a core value of “aiming for the virtually impossible”, releases can sometimes feel even more demanding. We want to take good care of our team members and encourage people toward a healthy work-life balance, so your feedback is heard – and we also encourage you to discuss it directly with your team lead. Thank you for all your contributions so far and wishing you great days ahead here at Varjo.

Pros

- Regular yoga classes and a good tea selection. - Work with kind and interesting people.

Cons

- The company oversold itself and the position during the hiring process, painting an unrealistic picture of what the job and company culture were actually like. - There's no structured onboarding for new employees, leaving them feeling lost and unsupported. When asking for guidance, leaders would simply say "just talk to someone." - Product leadership is weak, with no clear direction or vision for the software side of the company. Employees have nothing to learn from the leaders, who provide little guidance or mentorship. - There's no feedback culture at the company, with managers incapable of providing any feedback or guidance to employees. - Although the company prioritizes processes over people, employees frequently arrive late to meetings, fail to attend them altogether, or disregard agendas, causing frustration and wasted time.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are very sorry to hear about your experience and feelings of a mismatch between expectations and reality. While we’ve been putting a lot of effort into building and improving our onboarding practices, there is always room for improvement. We’ve been growing tremendously fast, and our focus has been on execution; building pioneering technologies and bringing them to market swiftly. However, this should never come at the cost of team members feeling left alone – having each other’s back is one of our core values for a reason. As said, we continuously aim to do better, so thank you for your honest feedback. We’re sorry to hear we weren’t a good match. We wish you all the best for your future career endeavors.
