We love to see headlines like, "Great Company"! Thanks for sharing your experience at Veeco and noting the excellent pay and benefits. It's true we can sometimes have long hours, but that's the nature of our business and industry. We try hard to make it only sometimes. If you have any suggestions about things we can do better, please email me at bwright@veeco.com. We're always open to new ideas! Thanks again for your feedback. Best, Brenden

Decent paycheck, not great otherwise

Pros

-Hiring seems egalitarian -The pay was fairly good -Occasional company lunches

Cons

-An endless parade of wasteful daily 30-minute meetings... two per day for some people -Very early hours are the norm; most employees start at 6:00-8:00 AM -The workforce is largely dull suburbanites, with 7-8 males for every female -The office has its fair share of unpleasant bully types. Rigid thinking and low education seem common as well. I suspect this is because Veeco has a big military recruitment program, and ever since it bought Ultratech (of San Jose, CA) back in 2017, MAGA types have become more common. It's probably no coincidence how in recent years, the San Jose branch's Glassdoor score has sunk down to near Veeco's national average.

Pros

Great community of employees. Occasional group happy hours and team events like axe throwing or softball. Pay is highly competitive.

Cons

Little to no room for advancement. Management is closed-door and not open to new ideas. Very much a stay keep your head down kind of place.

Thanks for sharing your feedback about your experience at Veeco. It's nice to see you feel so positive - no doubt you're a huge part of that! It seems like you have some ideas about growth that we'd like to hear more about. If you haven't done so already, I'd encourage you to speak with your manager or HR Partner (or even me or Bob Bradshaw) to see what might be possible. We'd love to get your perspective and see how we can improve. Thanks again for your thoughts and for making a material difference. Best, Brenden

Pros

Some good technical people as you will find in any technology company

Cons

Many! I will sincerely warn any new aspiring young research talent to stay away, particularly if you are already doing well elsewhere. The management has no clue or accountability towards its employees. They would even hire for a position in a dying business unit only to layoff the newly hire within 2 years of employment so that they can save on severance pay. Managers within the business unit keep scratching their heads as to why did we do this to the new person. I warn any new research talent doing well elsewhere that do not even think of Veeco ---it will suck the living soul out of you!

It always breaks my heart to see reviews like this. I know from my experience that Veeco is full of great people who mean well, including our leaders. So when I see someone who has had this kind of experience or feels this way about working at Veeco, I wonder how we got here. It feels like there must have been so many missed opportunities. We are committed to continuous improvement, respect, and diversity of thought and experience. We have many different ways of raising concerns, including a confidential employee hotline. I'm sure it wasn't like this for you on day one, and I hope you had the opportunity to express how you were feeling along the way. If you ever feel like doing so, I would love to speak directly about your concerns and observations. Maybe your feedback could be helpful to others, or maybe we'd discover that sometimes it's just not the right fit. Either way, we're open to feedback and doing better where we can. You can reach me directly at bwright@veeco.com or at (516) 714-1202, or you can reach Bob Bradshaw at rbradshaw@veeco.com. I hope you've found satisfaction and happiness in your next role, and I wish you all the best in the future. - Brenden

We’re glad to hear that you value the people you work with, the flexibility, our collaborative environment, and the innovative technology we develop. We're also pleased that you recognize our efforts in supporting a healthy work-life balance. We appreciate your honest feedback on areas where we can improve, including compensation, health benefits, promotions, and mentorship. We understand the importance of meaningful recognition. Your suggestion about focusing on more impactful rewards rather than gift cards is a helpful reminder as we continue refining our approach. Could be a great company, after it cuts all the useless management.

Pros

Good benefits, fair pay and good people. The smart people in this company is the only thing that keeps it in business. Managers should should not take credit for this as they haven't earned it.

Cons

Poor management is rampant at Veeco, it prevents great people from working to their best potential. Cut the fat and let the smart people do the work. Managers often get in the way of the people who actually need to do the work. In many cases the managers are completely redundant!

Thanks for posting a review of your experience at Veeco. Your comments about your view of management are concerning and tough to read. We want to improve, and we'd like your help to that - but we need to know a little more so we can work to make things better. There are a few ways we can do this. First, I'm happy to talk with you. I can be reached at (516) 714-1202 or at bwright@veeco.com. You can also contact Bob Bradshaw directly (he's also aware of this review). Or if you'd like to remain anonymous, you can use our Veeco Hotline (by telephone or online): within the U.S.: Dial 888‐419‐0572 or you can go to veeco.alertline.com in your browser. This is a tough read. Since you've been at Veeco in our Horsham facility for more than 10 years, I'm hoping you've shared your concerns and recommendations for improvement with your leadership team or HR Business Partner. If not, I would encourage you to do that. We're always looking for constructive ways to improve and leaders willing to help us change what you've described for the better. Of course, you can always reach out to Bob Bradshaw at rbradhaw@veeco.com or contact me directly at bwright@veeco.com. Best, B
