Pros

Other than the pay (that comes at the cost of your mental health, and self - dignity), there are absolutely no benefits to joining Venable Blue. New graduates, please do not take this job because of the pay.

Cons

Toxic and fear mongering workplace. In the span of the past year, MULTIPLE hired managers have left within the span of a month or two. That alone should flag what kind of environment this is. If that doesn't convince you, let me paint a picture of what it's like to work here. Top management genuinely does not respect you as a human being, unless you are blatantly a part of their favorite few. They communicate with you through either through direct threats or passive aggression. This normalized environment then trickles down to the associates. HR has done nothing to curb this behavior, even when we have communicated this multiple times through our yearly reviews. This is a culture of micromanagement, HEAVY favoritism, poor communication, lack of transparency, unrealistic expectations that cross boundaries, resistance to feedback, microaggressions towards minorities, and glory seeking.

Pros

Nice location / view and a few great partners and associates.

Cons

-Bad culture in litigation, lots of toxic attorneys and staff. -No work-life balance. LAAs pride themselves off of working weekends and being online until 11PM.... -LAAs are very catty and team up on one another. -Lack of understanding from management, horrible work distribution (some LAAs working much harder than others) and management is quite clueless as to what actually goes on in the office. Toxic LAAs that suck up to management. -CEO does not care about staff at all. -No upword mobility, they want life long LAAs that do not push boundaries. -Most of the attorneys I spoke to say that Venable pretends to be a "lifestyle" firm when it is not. -Lack of real diversity, attorneys and management are mostly white while LAAs are mostly asian, forming alliances with those only that are asian. -No flexibility with timing, work from home days, appointments, etc...
