Pros

There are some genuinely talented colleagues who try to do good work. The role provides exposure to international teams and clients, and the potential of the company is high if the culture issues are fixed.

Cons

The People Ops function in Vendasta India operates more like a caucus than a professional HR team. To survive here, you need to be in their good books, and there are sleeper cells across departments whose role is to feed gossip upward. This clique has been the ultimate reason for the decline of work culture at Vendasta India. Complaints or constructive feedback are pointless — they are either swept under the rug by leadership or turned back on the employee who raises their voice. Everyday aspects of work life are micromanaged — from office seating to cafeteria dynamics, travel arrangements to Goa, and even company events. Employees are expected to oblige without question or risk being put on the radar. There are people who run errands for this group, control interactions, and even police colleagues during vacations, annual parties, or other social settings. No one dares to share honest feedback through Lattice because it is widely believed that People Ops has access to see who said what. Privately, employees won’t speak up either, out of fear. I wouldn’t have spoken either, but something that happened during a company party revealed just how biased and toxic the environment really is. The true colours of the team come out when they are caught off guard at the party. On top of that, confidentiality is non-existent — salary information and other employee details are shared without hesitation. There is no sense of privacy or trust for employees in Vendasta India. The situation is not limited to India. Global People Ops contributes to the problem by piling on unnecessary workloads through tools like Lattice, making employees’ lives more difficult. Together, these practices have spoiled what could have been a strong and healthy work culture.

We recognize the frustration behind these comments, and we take them seriously. Allegations around fear, gossip, and breaches of trust do not reflect the culture we aim to build at Vendasta. It's not in line with what we hear both from managers or through Lattice. This feedback will be reviewed and discussed within the appropriate teams. If you have concerns, please bring them forward -- whether through your manager, People Ops, or a confidential channel. We're here, and we’re listening. But for us to address issues meaningfully, we need direct, constructive dialogue.

Overwork and layoffs

Pros

• Collaborative and friendly North American teammates • Opportunities to address complex challenges • Positive experiences with project managers, though all have since left or been terminated • Strong team culture and environment prior to the pandemic in the previous office setting

Cons

• Excessive workload • Frequent shifts in priorities • Limited promotion opportunities despite strong qualifications • Reorganizations every 4-6 months to adopt new management trends, with minimal explanation for prior reorganization failures • Recurring layoffs despite assurances they would cease • Assignment of junior developers to critical, complex infrastructure projects, leading to predictable failures • Termination of Canadian employees, followed by hiring less skilled developers in India, increasing workload for remaining Canadian staff to correct errors • Suspected encouragement of new and India-based employees to post positive Glassdoor reviews to artificially boost ratings • Significant expenditure on acquisitions, often resulting in the failure of acquired companies

Spending over six years with a company is no small thing. It speaks to real commitment, building meaningful relationships, and a belief in the work being done. We're grateful that you were part of that journey and helped shape the Vendasta of today. It's clear from your review that you experienced both the highs and the challenges that come with working in a fast-moving tech company. We’ve always been a place where people tackle tough problems, adapt to change, and work together to build something bigger than themselves. That hasn’t changed! The tech industry has faced some serious shifts, and like many others, we've had to make difficult decisions to navigate them. This is never easy, but these changes were necessary to ensure we can continue supporting our partners and building a sustainable future. We hire in India and other parts of the world because we serve businesses globally. It's part of growing responsibly and staying competitive. That said, our commitment to local hiring is still strong. We currently have 15 open roles in Saskatoon, including several for software developers. Our mission to help local businesses succeed remains at the heart of everything we do. As for reviews, we expect and respect all feedback, whether it's glowing or tough to read. We don’t script it, and can't filter it! What matters most is that we keep listening, keep learning, and keep building a place where people want to do their best work. We appreciate the time you spent at Vendasta and the impact you made. Wishing you all the best for the future!
