Racist, Sexist, Rude Employees

Pros

Good pay, especially for a college student. Good discount and opportunities to win "Vera Bucks", essentially vera money that you can use buy things.

Cons

At least at my store, there were racist employees. Often told me to not even bother with "those people" referring to southeast asians, hispanics, and blacks. Countless times told that they "hated those people." Manager told a black girl that she looked exactly like another black girl, ONLY BECAUSE THEY WERE BOTH BLACK. Employees have to wear pink, red, or french manicures. Cannot wear another colors because they are too "masculine." Cannot show your shoulders because that is immodest. They do an awful job at training you. Most of the time the hire from outside the company so it was very difficult for me as a team lead to learn everything all at once. Was blamed many times for not knowing how to do things that I was never trained on and didn't even know existed. I have been working in retail for years in managerial positions and was told to quit because I was being a "leader." Which is a complete lie. The manager told me I didn't fit the Vera Bradley aesthetic and that the way I dressed was inappropriate even though they never saw my bare arms or legs. Horrible company, avoid at all costs.

Major growing pains!!

Pros

Really good pay (especially for retail), full time positions for stock and sales leads (unusual in retail), lots of free items, some managers really love the product and their jobs and that can be inspiring, training was excellent

Cons

Scheduling: no work-life balance, No room for advancement; many times, outside people were brought in for higher positions, leaving loyal associates at the bottom. I was promised the world but it never materialized, while incompetent people were brought in that made me do their job for them Lots of weird business policies that made no sense and weren't followed New benefits package is awful; the old one was very nice. No benefits for same sex couples As a whole, the company does things very last minute; many times I was expected to complete floor changes or pricing issues within 24 hours without being notified and not having the proper staff, then getting blasted for not getting it done. Miscommunication and misinterpretation was rampant; no one ever knew what was going on. Vera Bradley wants you to be a very specific type of person, and any deviation from that will just cause your more heartache than it's worth.

Pros

At this point, there aren't any.

Cons

If you enjoy being micromanaged, maligned, marginalized, dehumanized, and gaslighting, this is the place for you! The Vera Bradley that was once beloved by customers and employees alike is no more. In its place is a toxic waste dump of mismanagement, lies, and scapegoating. And the most tone deaf, unintelligent leaders imaginable. This company has lost its way and is 100% committed to staying on the wrong path.
