Nobody here is happy anymore

Pros

Free lunches sometimes. Workout room, sauna, showers. Fenced in parking lot. Company provided uniforms and shoes for all pressroom and warehouse employees.

Cons

Over the last five years, company culture has gone downhill fast. Since Harland Clark has taken over, Harland Clark is completely DESTROYING the culture. I don't know one person happy with the acquisition. We use to get gift boxes, all kinds of bonuses for various things, great benefits and many other perks. Now, that is all pretty much gone. THAT was what made Valassis a great place to work. Now, every quarterly meeting has us finding out some other way the company is taking things from us or just more bad news in general. Employees are being moved from one position to another, all over the place. No one in any of the departments is happy. Doesn't matter if it is pressroom, parts, plate room, QA, bindery, EVERYONE is complaining about the changes. The company and management has done things to anger and alienate people and it won't be long before the fruit is ripened. Bottom line: the culture is severely deteriorating at a rapid rate. No one is happy. Everyone is complaining, if not to management, then to each other. It's only a matter of time before this place takes its final gasp. You cannot sustain a place with that much unhappiness.

Pros

For the clients you get (rare), the print pricing is decent; IF they want to mail a substantial amount of pieces. Most businesses capable of this have already tried this with Valassis, or are currently working with them (many are leaving due to decreasing results).

Cons

With how poorly direct mail performs and it's decrease in ROI, finding clients is difficult. There is NO support from management; they have no idea how to LEAD. The products often do NOT work. As for their "digital", Valassis is just a middleman for other companies; sometimes "buying" (they can't actually afford the cost) them, however nothing changes except that company's name. Their digital products perform poorly, and are far more expensive than their competitors. Valassis has been bought out and had to downsize multiple times in only a few short years. Despite their desperate attempts to keep afloat, the company as a whole is going downhill fast. They choose not to pay attention to competitors, thus do not see their products are far too expensive, they do not "target" to their level they advertise themselves capable of (they are the WORST at "targeting" compared to their competitors ability to reach a merchant's desired client[s]), and internal responses are slow (many of the people who work in support are also miserable, or speak English very poorly, and make MANY mistakes that should not be made). Clients get scewed over often due to billing problems. Quarterly/weekly calls are ALWAYS negative and talking about how they can't reach their numbers, they are losing money from lost clients they can't refill fast enough. This all may seem harsh, however it's the truth of what's going on here. Many people are jumping ship; unless the downsizing gets them first. Best advice: stay far away from this company.
