Benefits, although Boston area biotech is competitive and others will likely match

Cons

Smart people don’t stay long, and those that do stay are unhappy. Very disorganized. Management dictates everything, changing their minds all the time and expecting everyone to comply, no questions asked. Pipeline too diverse; management shooting in all directions; unfocused

They pay really well. They have to, or no one would join!

Cons

The management has no control over politics, and it ruins the atmosphere. Most people just keep to themselves as they don't want to be a victim of politics. The only reason I see the company still has employees is that they pay well. But let me warn you , money can't buy loyalty.

Pros

Vertex provides excellent benefits- good health, dental and life insurance, great vacation time policy, stock options provide considerable value. Financially stable. Commitment to patients. Track record of innovative science.

Cons

Favoritism is rampant. Unfortunately some senior leaders take advantage of their positions and push the wrong people up the ladder. Promotions are often NOT merit based- people promoted with no leadership skills or records of success.
