Pros

Great Pipeline, innovation, good benefits and salaries, intelligent people, incredibly respected from scientific community, lots of opportunities for growth and development, encourages open communication but, not sure they "hear it", clean reputation, tons of excitement about the future

Cons

New commercial team spends money like water. Too many "directors", everyone around here has a director title but, nowhere is their job description so it is hard to know who to go to for what. Top heavy and too many field managers, already seems like same old big brother big pharma company. Way too much HR time and money spent checking up on their field team and has already created and environment of fear (quotas, reach & freq)which is the death sentence for motivation and success of a sales team. You hired the right people with tons of experience, why the hyper management? Forget seeing your wife and kids until next year, if you're single that'll be 2 years!

Pros

There are a lot of great people working at Vertex- bright, committed, energetic, and fun. The benefit package is excellent, especially the paid time off. They encourage community involvement in many regards.

Cons

The environment is very political - even office space is handed out by how much the VP of Operations likes your boss. And if you even pretend to have a life outside the company, you will not get ahead. Staff development is an afterthought here, and many managers completely lack this as a core competency and rely on HR to have the tough conversations for them. There are also a lot of folks there who seem to serve no other purpose than to create bureaucracy. The organization is extremely top heavy, and VP titles are handed out like candy on Halloween, creating a level of management that are leaders in title, but not in capability or responsibility. Some people's jobs are reduced to a fraction of their prior responsibility due to lack of capability, and yet they retain their title. The organization works in silos with one hand actively ignoring what the other is doing, leading to re-work and confusion, as well as overlapping roles that lack proper definition and appropriate communication. As someone else posted here: though new ideas are encouraged, be careful who you voice them to. If you happen to get on the CSO's bad side - watch out. It only takes one wrong move, or the hearsay of one person, to get you blacklisted.
