Pros

Work from home and flexible with scheduling

Cons

The training program in the Sales/Use Tax department is a disaster. There is a training manager, who is boring, clearly has no knowledge of how people learn, and lashes out with retaliatory behavior when she is questioned or threatened by your knowledge and micromanages and makes life miserable. The turnover is high because the pay is low and the training is awful. Your employees are only going to be as good as your trainer and the current program at Vertex is the WORST. I lasted a little over a year but couldn't take it anymore. The management team operates like a group of high school "mean girls".

Pros

The product has value and is a necessity for almost any mid-large company. Nobody can do it better, and that is why the company is as successful as it is. Benefits are average. Good work-life flexibility in the tax industry is why people come back.

Cons

Culture of favoritism where people can be promoted multiple times despite repeated performance issues. The people who get the work done are overlooked. The glory comes in the project work, not in keeping up with job responsibilities. Compensation does not keep up with inflation or industry.
