High stress, low pay

Pros

The benefits are competitive... Not the best but not the worst. 401k match was like 100% up to 4%, then 50% match up to 6%. Health and dental were decent. I enjoyed my coworkers.

Cons

High pressure is put on Customer Service Engineers (CSE's) to sell equipment and contracts. It is essentially part of your job to be a salesperson and your bonuses are a direct reflection of how well you do. They change the structure and payouts of the bonuses every year, as well as your targets, so your base pay may increase year over year, but they adjust bonus payouts to bring your pay back down. They also do not encourage overtime, but make you work in the field for a minimum of 10 hours per day. The first hour of travel time in the morning and the last hour of travel home are on your own time. This can get confusing when coming home from a billable call, as the company is getting paid for that hour but you are not. Keep in mind that there are GPS tracking on all the company vehicles that monitor location, speed, and idle time (car is running but not moving) so they know if you are home early. Expect your manager to review your time in the field for the week down to the minute if you submit for overtime on your time card. There is no upward mobility for CSEs, and the "promotions" take at least 5 years. Hardly any service managers were actually promoted from the field, so therefore have little to no experience in the field. The Danaher way of personal reviews sets the targets for your achievements unrealistically high, so when you fall short, they can show you why you weren't good enough for promotion.

Pros

The salary was great. Cafeteria in the main building was nice and cheap. floor workers where nice

Cons

Management didn't know direction they wanted to go in. Didn't know how to track data to analyze week spots to improve upon. Stuck in old way thinking and didn't care much for improvements unless they where done through a long drawn out process that seemed to waste more time then it helped save.
