Easy, fun job- horrible supervisors
Pros
Patients are usually wonderful (I worked with the kids) VERY good CSU experience Night shifts are very easy (great if you're in school) Non-management co-workers were generally wonderful All the cons are worth it to help those kids 12 hour shifts
Cons
Supervisor turnover rate is insane, each one tries to fix all the stuff wrong with the place before giving up and quitting. Constantly short staffed in both nursing and direct care On call MD's don't always answer in emergent situations Turnover rate for staff is very high During COVID, we didn't have a cook, a janitor or a security guard You couldn't work in a worse neighborhood, Candler road is terrifying at night Dirty environment- expect bugs in the kitchen, unemptied garbage cans, etc There is a culture of gossip there, the nursing station is always buzzing with it You get the occasional kid who tears the place up, but if you're patient enough it usually works out. You're supposed to cover for yourself if you're sick. Like you have to call around and find someone to replace you. So you're constantly getting calls to come in when it isn't your shift. Not understanding when it comes to disabilities, mine were often laughed off
