Pros
The benefits, including health insurance and class reimbursements, remote work flexibility, and generous time off, in addition to the winter break/federal holidays we got, made my time here worth it. I also had a great, supportive supervisor. My workload was very manageable, and my department had decent professional development opportunities.
Cons
Limited career growth opportunities unless your own supervisor leaves. Consistently low, under-market salaries, even more so for housekeeping/facilities staff, etc., with limited annual raises. While I was there, they took away employee job descriptions in my division. Instead, they used goals written by employees themselves and approved by supervisors to determine annual merit raises, which, in my opinion, led to severe merit inconsistency and allowed some employees to voluntarily underperform and still pass annual performance reviews. Additionally, because of the strong politically progressive climate of the students and staff, employees who do not align with a very liberal ideology may encounter some of the challenges I did including being made uncomfortable by what I was forced to say/do/teach that did not align with my beliefs and be subjected to rude gossip about anyone who thought differently, no matter how kind that colleage was.
