Par for the State

Pros

Great health benefits, great PTO, employment is generally stable for most term faculty. All the general Pros of working for the state. Personally, I find I can achieve good work-life balance.

Cons

Pay is not very competitive in the academic market, existing faculty salaries do not keep up with new, external hires. State raises are small, irregular, and do not keep up with inflation. These are all Cons that are par for the course in state and/or academic jobs.

Pros

While the hourly pay is less than the surrounding community hospitals, the benefits are crazy good. I pay less than $100 a month for healthcare coverage. No copays if you go to their pharmacies. Free schooling.

Cons

If you work, downtown, parking is a beast, but the ancillary places seem to have good parking.
