      Pros

      Great infrastructure, a university with a research reputation on the up, very accommodating to your schedule. The lab I worked in was very diverse but everyone got along well, no nasty politics of any sort, so the work environment is very professional but very friendly as well.

      Cons

      Richmond can be a little dangerous, although very little crime happens around the medical campus. But if you're on the other campus, it can get a little strange at time.

      Pros

      Work/life balance is valued and encouraged. With the right boss, you can move your career forward. Generally great coworkers who are easy to work with. VCU is overall an outstanding institution, there is so much happening here and the university is committed to growing and moving forward.

      Cons

      State institution means nothing happens without approval from 50 people. Also leads to complacency and apathy from some employees, which can be frustrating when you're trying to get something done. Raises are few and far between and must be fought for if you are going to get anything besides the state budgeted increases.
