      Postdoc Association is somewhat active

      Cons

      Lots of bureaucracy. HR did not explain my benefits when I joined VCU and forgot to give me health insurance forms. Need to submit timesheet every two weeks eventhough I'm not a temp worker. That is such a waste of time. Career development depends mostly on supervisors. Lab safety is really lacking and nobody seems to care.

      Pros

      Inclusive environment; great benefits (5 hrs or annual leave AND 4 hrs of sick leave every pay period); employees respect each other. Boss is very understanding.

      Cons

      Low pay (hey but this is public sector, so it's almost expected). Things happen really slowly; lack of accountability from some staff members with the state worker mentality. Getting more research focused and chasing after the dollars. Expectations sometimes ambiguous.
