Pros

Lots of training opportunities and tuition reimbursement if you are pursing an advanced degree. The campus is beautiful and Blacksburg is a wonderful town.

Cons

Lower pay than the private sector. Job security that was once a given is no longer applicable. University is moving toward a business model that in no way benefits the employee or consumer (student).

Pros

There are many opportunities to work independently and try new things. The current leadership has a big vision for the company which can be exiting.

Cons

It can be difficult to advance in a career without having to leave, since most open positions are filled by external candidates.
