Pros

Working with some great docs who are dedicated to their patients and to the practice of medicine. They love teaching, and don't mind being interrupted by the PA for patient-specific consultations. Excellent pay and benefits. Excellent CME opportunities.

Cons

Many of the physicians stress "patients-per-hour" over quality of care. They instruct the PA to do only the minimum level of care required, regardless of patient comfort or satisfaction. They admonish a PA that asks too many questions. While the docs follow a progressive work schedule based upon "physician wellness", the schedule for PAs is brutal, alternating nights/days in the same 5-day period, with the PAs working the most unpleasant shifts, mostly weekends. You may end up with 6 - 8 different supervising physicians in one shift, each with their own quirks and biases and attitudes. Very difficult to navigate through these strong personalities. Benefit package and CME reimbursement are handled by Corporate in Oakland. Everything else is handled by the local Medical Director including hiring/firing, pay, scheduling, and job-performance evaluation. The excellent CME reimbursement is worthless if the local MD won't give you time off to attend it. The key is to have a good rapport with the local Medical Director. This is not always possible, and if you are terminated or receive a bad performance evaluation at one CEP site will not be hired at another CEP site.

Pros

The benefits were pretty good - the health care and 401k programs were great.

Cons

The management team at MedAmerica was very weak. The few who wanted to be supportive and invest in my professional growth were not able to do so (lack of resources), and the others just didn't know how or even care. There is little room for advancement within the organization, and fewer opportunities for professional growth. Also, pressures from clients are not handled well, often leaving employees in difficult situations without any support from above.

Toxic Culture / Lack Proper Business Leaders

Pros

Flexible work hours and the company is 100% remote. They have a workforce that has an above average tenure there.

Cons

While they have employees that have been there FOREVER, this is also a con. These employees have moved up through the ranks and are largely not fit for these management and leadership positions. This is because they lack the experience and insight, having only been at Vituity for their entire careers. Many of the issues they face now is due to antiquated processes or the lack of knowledge or willingness to embrace technology. They still reminisce about the "good old days" when everything was on paper. Their processes are largely just taking that old process that they slap into technology. If anyone tries to question this, they are considered non-team players and are outcast. The bureaucracy there is crazy; it's not about what's the right answer or right thing to do, it's about what the VP or physician want. No questions!
