Pros

As an emergency room scribe, you see practically every case you can imagine, from simpler cases like the flu, lacerations, and rashes, to more acute cases such as appendicitis, stroke, and cardiac arrest. Aside from getting admitted into professional school, this job will help put you miles ahead of many of your peers while in professional, as you will become familiarized with presentation of aforementioned cases as well as medical terminology by writing thousands of charts throughout the entirety of your job. The schedule is incredibly flexible, although this varies by location.

Cons

The pay, the pay, the PAY! You barely cut a living wage, even as a full time scribe. At most Vituity locations, the pay is only slightly above minimum wage, which is extremely low considering the high workload of being a scribe. The base pay for the lowest paid hospital employees was $5/hr higher than what we made as scribes for Vituity. However, and unfortunately, most emergency room scribe companies have virtually identical pay. In addition, the on-boarding process took roughly 4 months, and does not adequately prepare most new scribes for the work they will be undergoing.
