Pros

Real Perks - Free Coffee, Ice Cream, Fitness Equipment, Game Tables. Young, pleasant/cheerful/friendly environment. In a market that has potential (eCommerce) Company Values (on paper)

Cons

In a nutshell: **There is no value of employee potential** No attempt to develop employees and guide/drive them to the best of their abilities; the focus becomes merely on what can be produced. If you ever cross your manager you will get fired. No flexible work arrangements. No Privacy - completely open with a 4'x2' desk. It's tough to have your headphones on for hours a day... Software development bonus structure is abysmal - it is tiny a carrot on a stick; expect to work a considerable amount of extra time to consistently not meet the projected percentage each quarter. Software development department forcibly has no lighting - If you get a walk through the facilities you will see most of the overhead lights off. Any attempt to have a safe level of lighting will be met with criticism and fierce opposition. The software development department is dominated by people that learned to program or read the most current agile/architecture design patterns and are now software engineering leaders. The latest JavaScript framework, Document Database, or Service Bus gets added because it's all the rage. Adding to the unprofessionalism - Employees are encouraged to write positive (not objective) reviews here on Glassdoor.

Volusion Response
11y
It is unfortunate you felt your work environment was below average. Management strives to address all employee issues presented to them, so I apologize your needs were not met to your satisfaction. Volusion employees are absolutely encouraged to provide feedback, positive or negative, whenever possible. Employee feedback is crucial to maintain a positive and balanced environment, which is why we provide quarterly anonymous surveys. The perks mentioned above were a result of employee input, and as we continue to grow, the information we receive is invaluable in keeping the company presence innovative, fresh and enjoyable.

Pros

There are some truly great people who work at Volusion, however many are guilty of drinking the company kool-aid. Although, Volusion also tends to hire people right out of college and they're simply naive as to how a company should treat their employees.

Cons

Oh wow, where to begin: Weak compensation relative to the market Zero growth opportunities Lack of transparency in regards to the company's overall direction, management and profits A toxic culture where HR serves as attitude police to stomp out any discontent Blatant exaggerations of perks and benefits (i.e., free on-site dry cleaning service! Oh wait, in actuality this cost you an arm and a leg and is provided at zero cost to Volusion from a third party)

Pros

I can hardly think of any. I made a lot of friends here, but the majority of employees were incompetent. It's hard to blame them though when the training was poor/nonexistent.

Cons

Extremely cheap. Everyone is paid well below market rate and when raises are given they're insultingly low. What really irks me about this is that its not as if the money wasn't there. Management constantly sends out emails about what a great job everyone is doing and brags about record sales/profits. If the profits are so great, why can't you afford to pay your employees what they deserve? The software was solid at one point in time, but now it's just riddled with bugs. "New versions" are really just reskins of the same old product. Most of the features that get added are worthless and end up doing more harm than good because of all the bugs they create. The poorest aspect of Volusion is the management. They never had a clue what was going on most of the time and they were quick to play the blame game when something went wrong. ood exa
