Pros

Good compensation. Focused on trying to make this tight industry work. The workload is pretty light. Bonus is great as long as the bar has been passed.

Cons

No meritocracy, insular culture on both the legacy sides. Tops down decision making leaves no room for innovation let alone incremental improvement. Leaders think they know everything.

Pros

Great job with some of the best technology you will ever work with. Many of the best engineers across many disciplines have made WDC their home. Magnetic, mechanical, electrical, IC design and firmware engineers can all find homes here. It can be a great job if you are an engineer.

Cons

Long one of the biggest high tech employers in Orange County, the attitude towards its employees does not reflect the global economy. This is a place with a very Old School management style that has no place for people who are "not like us". Sadly, a major part of that style includes the notion that lies and miss-truths are a normal part of doing business. "Management by Crisis" is der rigueur. There is no future planning that I can see, only jumping from one emergency to another. Equipment is bought that way, people are hired that way. Because of this, too many shortcuts are accepted along the way. Crises are often manufactured because that is the only way your team/group/division will get the resources it needs. Industry experts are hired for their knowledge and Rolodex, then siloed and ignored. The strategy is to hire people who understand an industry, business relationship or technology so that your company can excel. However, the next step is forgotten as nobody listens to their advice.
