Pros

There's huge potential to learn a lot, and it's never slow so you better like to be busy. Personalities are all over the map so you're bound to find a few people to be close with.

Cons

You will not make enough money to live in New York, so you better come from a rich family with property in the city (like most of the assistants) or expect to live with many roommates.

Pros

There are plenty of opportunities to challenge yourself, and to observe/learn from some of the best in the industry. Lots of learning potential and probably the best place to get a foot in the door in entertainment. If you really put in the effort there is a lot of space for new ideas and creativity, and assistants are often encouraged to engage in the creative process.

Cons

The hierarchical structure of the company can be pretty demeaning. There's a lot that needs to be reevaluated in terms of how lower level employees are treated versus how much of the work they do (read: a lot) - and definitely in regards to how they're compensated. Low pay and steadily decreasing benefits can make it difficult to maintain.
