Pros

Compensaton was OK, was a great team to work with.

Cons

Lack of work life balance, bad leadership unchecked by HR. Leadership was not clear in setting direction, lead by bullying and micromanagement. HR did not help when involved. Luckily I found a better team and opportunity and left my position.

Pros

Very very flexible schedule

Cons

They pay their pension admin department so little based on the amount of stress and work. They have some analysts under me starting at 38K. They hire temps at $18/hr as well to cut the costs down, but they do the EXACT same amount and type of work and are intended to be hired full time. They only are called temps to save the giant company money. They have some temps TRAINING employees making 150% of their salary or more. I've myself trained someone that was hired way above my level that was only hired because she's friends with someone. It's political at best, and nefarious at worst. Don't work in this department. The bureaucracy is horrible. They also do poor work for their clients. It disgusts me the number of errors we make on elderly people's pensions. The managers are so concerned with billing and their own client-satisfaction-dependent-bonuses that they don't know the day to day work that is necessary on their clients. Everyone, including the managers, are so overworked. They work people to death and that's why they leave. It is a constant revolving door. I know four people that resigned in the past three weeks and there are only about 150 that work with us, and I don't even know everyone. That's insane.

Pros

The people here are great. You get to work with a lot of really smart people who are driven and competent, plus always willing to help out (at least on my team). There's a lot of flexibility. You can work from home basically whenever you want and our office recently implemented an open office space, which is pretty sleek. Also, standing desks are great. Finally, you get a lot of opportunities to take on projects and make big contributions pretty early on. Definitely a great learning experience.

Cons

The compensation isn't competitive with other firms. This is easy to see by doing some basic research. The firm wouldn't negotiate salary when they hired me and the first raise I got (during annual review) was a joke. I got a raise after being promoted but it frankly was still considerably lower than my market value. It really boggles my mind how this company is so successful and has so much talent yet refuses to adequately compensate its employees. Aside from the poor pay, annual enrollment season is horrible. You can get through it, especially if you have a strong team or are on an easy client, but get ready to roll up your sleeves and work stressful, long days. Another huge issue for me with this company is they recently removed our office perks such as free oatmeal, popcorn and soda. This was all provided by clients at no charge to the firm, but regardless, leadership took these perks away because some offices didn't have them. Talk about a tone-deaf morale killer. Not a HUGE deal, but speaks volumes about how out of touch leadership is. Way to demotivate your staff without even improving your bottom line.
