Pros

Tenured group of hourly associates have a lot of knowledge.

Cons

Micro-management galore. New PM is a clown and plays favorites, Achieving KPI's will receive comment like, "lucky, not good." Someone thought eliminating the "Process Improvement" Department was a smart thing! Goals do not follow "S.M.A.R.T." process and in many cases are unachievable. Site has close to 200 salaried staff who do nothing but eat up profits! Silos and lack of alignment across the entire business is stifling.

Pros

At first glance, career seekers will notice an abundance of positions available at Wabtec. Their portfolio is diverse, so whether you're an IT professional, cyber-security, finance, or other business professional, you'll likely find something that may interest you on the job portal. There are tons of openings currently from VP level rolls down to shop laborer. I have been at it with Wabtec for over a decade and have worked at several different business units within the larger corporation. Largely, the site-level leadership all the way down to the floor employees are generally good folks. I have appreciated the relationship I've had with most of my +1's, down to my subordinates, and others.

Cons

However, when you get to the larger sense of the company, with having acquired GE (while feeling more like GE acquired us), it feels like Wabtec has lost its way a bit. When the merge happened, suddenly it feels like there are new bosses everywhere I've had no interaction with in the past with no introductions preceding and opportunity for advancement within the company has all but dried up as they plug GE folks into rolls all around us. No discussion or discourse is conducted at shop level to suss out what Wabtec systems were worth keeping of casting off in favor of whatever GE was doing, rather it feels like Wabtec just handed the keys to the castle over and stepped back. The company talks a mean game when it comes to their public statements, but it has become a frustrating company to work for, with little incentive given to current employees to want to grow and develop. Raises to those under Plant Management level employees are insignificant at best, not even in keeping with inflation, and there are no bonus programs.

Pros

Employees are very nice. and they try hard under impossible conditions.

Cons

Company is loosing money and has been loosing money for a long time. As a result corners are being cut. People leave and they are not replaced. Which means that everyone else has to work harder. But when people are stretched they can only do so much. So the quality of the product suffers and the company looses more money. So more is demanded from the employees and more leave. Those that are left behind are told to perform miracles. Also, managers are micro-managed from 12 time zones away. And they are given conflicting orders that don't make sense. So as an accounting manager I was told to bring the Accounts Receivables past-dues from our clients current. But you are not allowed to put any on credit hold unless you get approval from Senior Managers. They don't respond to your questions so things get worst. I remember something from a management science class in business school where a case study was given of an employee being put in a similar impossible situation. Its as if someone is standing over you with a baseball bat and says, "If you move, I will hit you. And if you don't move, I will hit you".
