Pros

The employees at Wake County are true public servants. Many have advanced degrees and intentionally chose public sector for their careers. Benefits and salaries are competitive. HR training was exceptional as was home/work balance. Ability to work independently and grow was mostly encouraged.

Cons

The last two directors of HR (reporting to the same Deputy Director) have terrorized the HR employees. High turnover, loss of trust, mind games, silos, and ambushes were common and completely unnecessary. Most of the people who left had been there for years and were considered to be exceptional in their fields. This resulted in requiring a higher salary to replace the pushed-out veteran, but the resulting skill set was average at best. A very expensive protocol. HR directors were/are more interested in being in control and not being exposed when incapable of improving operations than actually running a premier county's HR program. The people that reported to the last two directors have more skills, integrity and work ethic than the directors themselves and this was not only obvious, but highly resented.

Pros

Wake county pays well & tries to be a good place to work but is too big to follow through on things they think will make it a better place to work.

Cons

I was terminated without any formal paperwork or legitimate explanation. The reasoning I was given was vague and unsubstantiated, and it was clear my direct supervisor had a personal dislike for me. The workplace culture was toxic—one coworker even made a disgusting and inappropriate comment suggesting I was fired for not “showing up with my knee pads” with leadership. When I tried to voice my concerns to higher-ups, I was told that my input didn’t matter. I would not recommend this company to anyone looking for a fair or respectful work environment.

Cons

-no career ladder -favoritism to friends and family -discriminating activity -unethical environment -your knowledge and experiences doesn't matter -unprofessional leaders -lots of cover up within organization -pay is low and expectations are for you to work two positions and be happy, if you complain your black listed. -HR is there for a check nothing else
