Pros

Great benefits, competitive pay and friendly staff.

Cons

Upper-management; apathetic, unhelpful, not knowledgeable, unavailable. "Required"/"assigned" OT. Not much room for growth, to the point that you start wishing people would just die.

Pros

Wakefern is a great company to work for. Ninety Nine percent of the people I work with are nice, helpful and cooperative.. The work environment is very comfortable and the office location in Raritan Center in Edison, NJ is central to most of the major highways in NJ. I have worked in the IT department for the last almost 30 years. Our VP Alan Aront is tough but fair. He is also a very nice person. My managers for the most part have been work oriented. The pay is fair (you'll never get rich at Wakefern, but you'll never starve either) and the benefit package is fantastic and inexpensive.

Cons

The IT building that we've been in since the mid 1980's was never meant to house people. It was built as a warehouse and can only be made to be so comfortable. The cube partitions are from the same time period and need updating. There are times when overtime will be necessary. In the development area those times are few and far between. However, if you know this coming in the door, you'll be prepared for those rare times when you need to put in extra time. The yearly $50 holiday bonus hasn't been updated in 20 years. Not a big deal.
